Abiding in the Blessing: The Genesis Blessing (Part 3)

Author: Creflo Dollar

Summary

The word “abide” means to set up residence in or to dwell. To abide in the blessing means to live in the blessing. The blessing is an empowerment or an enablement that removes burdens and destroys yokes. It attacks anything that is wrong in our lives and causes us to succeed. If we abide in the blessing it will transform every aspect of our lives. However, we must develop our faith in the blessing by speaking the Word of God.

  1. The war of the kings
    1. Abram won in battle against several kings with God’s supernatural help (Genesis 14:18-23).
    2. In those days it was a tradition to take the spoils (or goods) left behind as a result of winning the war.
      1. Abram gave a tenth of the spoils to the priest Melchizedek.
      2. Melchizedek blessed Abram when he brought his tithe.
      3. Abram gave his tithe because he appreciated what God had done. He knew he could not have won the battle without His help.
    3. In establishing his covenant with God, Abram refused to receive goods from the King of Sodom.
      1. Abram honored God by giving Him all the credit for his success.
      2. God changed Abram’s name to Abraham and his wife Sarai’s name to Sarah.
      3. By doing so, God was confirming His covenant promise to Abraham.
  2. Abraham’s wife Sarah was barren but God promised them a son (Genesis 17:16-20; Genesis 22:17-18).
    1. God’s blessing on Abraham was working in every area of his life (Genesis 24:1).
      1. The blessing is the solution for all types of barrenness. Abraham and Sarah had a child at a very old age.
      2. God blessed their son Isaac, saying, “And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice” (Genesis 22:18).
      3. God also blessed Ishmael (although he was not the son God had promised). He did so for Abraham’s sake.
